This channel contains a series of short videos designed to provide basic training to our eye care worker operating in Africa. The instruction is kept as simple as possible but gradually more films will be added as the training expands.
Bespoke Specs for Astigmatism
Mission for Vision uses a frame and lens system that enables the correction of more complex refractive errors including high degrees of astigmatism. The lenses are pre cut and are fitted to frames for round lenses. The lenses can be rotated to align with any axis required. These have proven to be hugely popular as we can now correct for most ametropias we are faced with in the remote areas we visit where no lens cutting facilities exist.

Fan and Block
Переглядів 41 тис.9 років тому
Fan and Block used to be a common method for correcting astigmatism but has been superseded by the cross cyl technique. It is however still a useful method especially when dealing with larger cyls and sometime patients finds the fan and block method less confusing. Its certainly a useful backup especially in situations where hi tech equipment is not available.
Cross Cyl Left Eye
Переглядів 18 тис.9 років тому
This is just the same procedures as with the right eye. Again the astigmatism is small but the theory is the same for larger cyls.
Cross Cyl Right Eye
Переглядів 137 тис.9 років тому
A demonstration of the cross cyl technique with a patient with a small amount of astigmatism.
Binocular Balancing and Reading Pescription
Переглядів 42 тис.9 років тому
After the BVS has been achieved monocularly the eyes have to be balanced to work together comfortably. This video demonstrates a simple fogging technique used to do this. After this the reading addition was assessed. This fogging method should be done at the end of the sight test so in the case of a thorough cross cyl examination this should be done after the astigmatic correction has been asse...

The first Solar Powered Lens Cutting Machine
Переглядів 9 тис.9 років тому
The first solar powered spectacle lens cutting machine has been designed and produced by Ian to enable Mission for Vision to provide primary care services to remote regions of the developing world. It has been designed to be low maintenance, very portable, durable and with the ability to run off solar power.
Glazing with Pen' Lens 1
Переглядів 22 тис.9 років тому
After 12 years of working in Africa it became apparent to us that a machine was needed that could cut spectacle lenses in areas where there is either no electricity supply or the supply is so poor that it is unable to cope with the standard equipment available on the market. Ian has therefore developed a small portable lens cutting machine that runs off battery power which can be charged using ...

How to be pd
I truly appreciate this video, easy to follow and understand..Thank you so much
aku juga punya masin paset ini sepasang dengan patrun hasilnya memang bagus.
This is one of the best, I say.👏❣👏❣
+8.00/-2.75×85 +8.00/+5.25x175 That's exactly what you gonna see on lensometer
But you can't see the power in lensometer
A Great man. RIP. Serving people.
La primera maquina de corte ,solo sirve para cortar lentes con bisel plano para despues ranurar, en la ranuradora, o 3 piezas, no sirve para anteojos completos, porque no hace el bisellado.?
Thank you Sir 🙏 you make it very simple!!
It should be explain that - Once the axis is found, next is the power of the cylindrical correction is determined. This power finding step will indicate whether a minus or positive cylinder is required to correct the astigmatism. It took me a minute to figure out when to use the minus or plus cylinder from my trial kit, Copilot saved me!
It seems to me that in order to do the reversal test, a -0.25 cylinder at 100 deg (perpendicular to the original sharpest line) should be added, instead of a -0.25 sphere. Because the former would be an over-correction, causing the anterior focal line to go further back, becoming the new posterior focal line, thus causing a reversal, while the latter would just move the entire pencil closer to the retina, therefore shouldn't cause a reversal. Am I missing something?
I use the milling machine for my Optical. Has anyone found a bit to cut Polycarbonate?
My exam is in 2 hrs and I thought to open youtube so I can understand better and I just want to thank you❤❤❤ because how the hell is it this easy and I was struggling all year
Great video ! I am interesting with it! Brought memories back of my short term training in Addis Ababa SOT PLC
Very good explanation
I'm back today to greet you Sir
Thank you so much. I need you in my life. You explain this so well
Thank you so much sir🙏 you help me so much 🩷
Very nice job. Thanks
Good day, where's your office situated in Lagos Nigeria. I will like to buy some of this equipment
Hi thanks for this. Is there anyway, for bifocals where there is reading lens, which numbers to add that to in order to get the reading glasses prescription? For example, with a distance prescription of -0.50, +2.75, 017 (vs it's transposition +2.25, -2.75, 107) , which transposition do I add this 1.75 number to in order to get the reading lens spherical prescription or does it matter?
Best explanation!!!! Thank you a million 🙏🏽💫💫
I am an Egyptian optical technician. I can maintain all glasses and of course install them. I can even use a vision detector. I want to travel for work. Is there anyone who can help me?
Thank you sir
Please don't ever take this video down. I link to it in my optical classes when we cover different types of edgers. We have a mobile health lab at our college that allows us to give eye exams and glasses to those in need (Project Sight at Durham Tech in Durham, NC), and this video serves to educate our students about the global need for people with their skills to help the greater community. It's a shame Ian's life was cut short, but his legacy still lives on. ❤
Good afternoon sir Im guljar ali khan from India I sc your video sir I work this machine samthing is wrong this machine for, R.....eye.. pd.. 32 L.....eye ..pf ...32 Now R eye pd wrong 2 mm pd wrong sir
Thanks sir I am Indian
Good... Very good wants more such video.... But sound should be next video.... Salute

I need four job i am a lens fitting Tecnicen
❤❤❤❤ from Bangladesh 💞💞💞
my left ear enjoyed this
thanks a lot
thank you so much
Thank you sir It was really helpful♡
I can't understand your English language...it's better to have subtitle. Or written Sentence
Thanks for your help video
principle: Find BVS with a subjective or ret test. bring 2nd FL to ret with pos. bring 1st FL to ret with neg. test: occlude one eye. use BVS fo estimate the cyl power, add half the pos cyl to get 2nd FL onto ret. adjust the axis. (at 90* to test chart axis). add 0.5 sph plus as a check for later. now onto blocks. need to add minus cyl until blocks are equally blurred. the check: remove the 0.5 sph and there should be a reversal of block clarity.
This summary got multiple points wrong.
Sir , please make vedios on slit lamp
Very useful video. In this example, the sph is a minus(-5.00), so every time you increase cylinder power by -0.50, you reduce sph power by 0.25. What about if the sph power is +5.00, when you increasing the cylinder by 0.25, will you decrease sph to +4.75 or increase it to +5.25? Confuses me alittle bit but I understand the technique
+5.25
Thank you
You’re a great teacher sir
Thank you Ian, I now do my own refraction, using my own test lenses. Starting at 20/60, or -0.75 diopters, I got a change of +1 diopter, to 20/20, at measured +0.25 diopters. In other words, I got myself out of myopia. Thank you for helping me achieve this scientific result!
I love how you teach ,it's amazing Please can you share a complete subjective refraction. Will be greatful.
yaal nice but this matchine how to put grove .or you use hand adger
this video is old but i want to ask anyway, so what if adding the -0.25 lens does make it better for the patient? Do we keep it?
Is it normal to have an astigmatic vision in ajustment period with my glasses? I have astigmatism
Nice ❤❤
Hi
Great video, brought memories back of my apprenticeship in a RX workshop 👍
